It’s been a hard year of preparations for the PG Entrance exams. But smart preparation with textbooks and speed notes will do the trick and this has to be done in limited time.
Speed has been an integral part of my preparation right from the start.. Every class is important and TPTS are to be written seriously. Miss no classes especially Medicine, Pediatrics ,Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Surgery and Pathology. HBT Medicine and NBT Pediatrics are to be studied by any serious aspirant. I thank the speed faculty for guidance they provided.

I wish to dedicate this moment to my parents, my teachers at KMC, Chennai and the faculty of Speed Medical Centre for all their guidance in helping me to prepare PGI Entrance Examination and my friends. At least in my terms, success isn’t the position we’ve secured; it includes the knowledge we’ve acquired, our achievement in the pursuit of perfection – in that sense it is largely subjective. When we are eager to learn more, our frustration tends to get replaced by thoughts of a much higher plane. The importance we attach to the ranks may fade. We would realize the seemingly insignificant role we play in the “larger design”. That is bliss. That is wisdom.

As I pen these words now, a feeling of relief and excitement goes through my mind. With hard work, prayers of my parents and wellwishers and blessings of Lord Almighty, I have been able to achieve my dream of securing a post graduate seat at one of the best institutes in India. I would like to share a few words regarding this eventful journey. Having narrowly missed a PG seat through State entrance examination due to indecipherable quota and roster system and turning away from a PG seat in Manipal University simply because I can’t afford the tuition fees, and having missed a PG seat through COMEDK 2009 by just one mark, I made up my mind to be determined and focussed to achieve my goal in the simplest way possible to go for a good rank that remains immune to all the obstacles, and what I have achieved now has never occurred even in the wildest of my dreams.
 
My parents, my brother and my relatives have been a constant source of encouragement and moral support. Getting to the point, dental post graduate entrance examination has become more unpredictable in recent years and I got the first hand experience of it when I appeared for the All India Dental PGEE 2009. Shocked at the reality and my preparation level, I decided to up the ante to be in the race.
 
The most important and significant thing which I realised was that solving the previous year’s medical papers is equally or sometimes more important as compared to dental papers. It helped me to know and learn about numerous intricate and complicated things in General Medicine, Pathology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Physiology. But to go to that level I should be confident with the dentistry subjects and that’s what I got by preparing for it during the initial stages. It’s not possible to read each and every line from all standard textbooks, but what can be done is having a clarity in basic concepts and reading all the important topics from textbooks. Solving as many MCQs as possible before reading the theory helped me in gaining an insight in what topics and areas importance must be given and in what possible ways questions may be asked. Being clear about the basics helps to save precious time in reading and understanding complicated topics.
 
Discussing on online forums helps in clearing doubts, knowing some entirely new things which you may not be familiar with but others may have an idea about or even well versed in them. As much as working hard, it’s equally important to relax and not to lose your cool even in most frustrating circumstances when nothing goes right. It would be fitting here to thank Dr.Vinayak Senthil, Director, Speed Medical Institute, Dr. Senthil Moorthy, Co-Ordinator of dental faculties and all the faculty members for their constant motivation and inspirational words.
 
I am grateful to my Alma Mater, St. John’s Matriculation HSS, Chennai and SRM University, Chennai for being the backbone of my progress throughout my school and college days and to my friends, who always lend a helping hand, motivate me and take pride in my achievements. Last, but in no way the least, I am grateful to my parents for making me what I am today and my sweet brother who keeps my energy levels always high. Hard work always pays,sooner or later.

It was like a dream come true for me when I got 2nd rank in PGI, Chandigarh exam for nov 2010 session. Because in May exam I got a rank of 123 it boosted my confidence and it was then when getting into PGI became a dream a dream which I cherished for all these months and now when its turned into reality , life appears more beautiful.

Behind this success story, there are many great personalities who have guided and supported me so that I could reach this zenith. This year although was a tough year, but the wonderful thing is I came across some really hard working, inspiring teachers who are masters in their subjects but yet always down to earth and ready to help personalities. These teachers have become role models to many and I am no exception.Dr. Vinayak Senthil sir, inspiration derived from him is immense. Dr. Raj Murali sir, I am yet to find another hard working sir like him. If one has to learn biochemistry, then in a true sense it has to be learnt from Dr. Shanmughpriya.

Friends, as far as preparation is concerned there are certain tips and rules I used to follow…
– 12-14 hrs of dedicated study for 6 months can change your life.
– Basically target 1 exam say ALL INDIA ENTRANCE and prepare a time table and stick to it. Other exams should be written to assess yourselves and if you get through in between, well done.
– Last 10 yrs of AIIMS and all India papers are must and sufficient.
– Prepare your own book [60-80 pages] only on memory based stuff….to be revised the day before exam.
– Solve at least 400 MCQ’s per day in the last month before exam.
– Minimum attempt for all India 290….AIIMS 192-194 and PGI 240 [although it depends on paper and your preparation level]
– Believe in yourselves.
– With the love and support of my parents…..my mother who is my angel….and with god’s grace, my dream has come true.
